Your Life Is Not That Bad
It is easy to get wrapped up in our own head. We focus on what is going wrong in our lives, the hardships we’ve faced, and the things that haven’t gone our way.
We begin to believe that we just have gotten a bad role in life.
That the dice didn’t fall in our favor.
We believe that we are the unlucky ones in a world filled with those whose life is easy.
But, here is the truth.
If you are reading this now, you are living a better life than 99.9% of humans have ever lived.
When we look back into the history books the human experience wasn’t sunshine and rainbows, it was filled with disease, pain, suffering, and tyranny. The romanticization of the ancient human experience is a lie. Life sucked for the vast majority of humans. We are alive today during the absolute best time to be a human. We live longer, healthier lives, have more wealth than has ever existed, and live more comfortably than any generation.
It is easy to lose sight of this.
If that isn’t enough here is another example.
During World War II around 11.5 million men were drafted to join in the fight. They had no say in whether or not they wanted to. These were guys as young as 18 who were plucked from their average life, thrust into a foreign land, given a weapon, and told “good luck.”
The next time you complain that your life is bad, remember that your life might be subjectively bad at the time compared to what you are used to, but it is not objectively bad.
