You Will Be What You “Will” To Be
James Allen’s “As A Man Thinketh” is one of the most powerful books ever written. It is less than 70 pages, but every single word is intentional.
Within the book, there is a single line that stands out among them all.
“You will be what you “Will” to be”
It is easy to forget that we are in the driver’s seat of our lives.
We get to decide what we want to be.
We get to decide what we become.
However, most of the time it does not feel like that. We feel like swimmers stuck in a rip tide being pulled out to sea against our will. We feel trapped and powerless, but it is just a mirage.
At all times we hold the reins.
At all times we can change course.
Tomorrow we could drop what we are doing and decide to go an entirely different direction in life. However, most of us won’t. We make excuses on why we can’t.
Bills. Rent. Gas.
The tough truth is that most will wait until it is too late.
We will tell ourselves, we will change course when the time is right, when we have more money saved, when we feel just a bit more comfortable, but each day the golden handcuffs get tighter and tighter. The key becomes further and further out of reach until one day we realize that the time to do it was 30 years ago.
There will never be a better time to become who you are meant to be than today.
“What was his talent anyway? It was a talent all right but instead of using it, he had traded on it. It was never what he had done, but always what he could do. And he had chosen to make his living with something else…”
Ernest Hemmingway from “The Snows of Kilimanjaro”
