Why Not Me?
“Why not me?” The most powerful question.
I once watched an interview series that asked 100s of successful founders questions about their journeys. One of the overwhelming themes throughout their answers was this idea that if someone out there is going to build a company, take over an industry, create the life they want to live, and be successful then why not them?
It sounds simple. But, the reality is that most people count themselves out of the race before the race has begun. Most people view themselves as incapable of building a company or believe that in order to be successful you have to be a superhuman genius type. Most don’t even try to prove themselves wrong. They just accept their belief that they are not capable and continue on with their life.
They don’t even get to swing the bat because they never leave the dugout.
Stepping up to the plate is the starting point. The second that you believe that you are capable is the start of the race. Without this belief, you will never escape.
Here is the truth. Most founders are normal people. They wake up late. They procrastinate. They aren’t perfect. They aren’t superhumans. The difference between most founders and non-founders is negligible. Founder’s just believe they are capable of being founders, and decide to create businesses. They are willing to step up to the plate and swing the damn bat. Maybe they will strike out. Maybe they won’t hit the grand slam they were hoping for on the first at-bat, but unless they get up to the plate they will never get the chance to be great.
