One Kick 10,000 Times
Bruce Lee once said, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
At first glance, it is the opposite of what you would expect. Why would you want to practice one thing so many times?
Wouldn’t it be better to practice 10,000 kicks rather than just one kick? You see, when you practice 10,000 kicks one time you never master any single kick. You will be a beginner at each one of those kicks. On the flip side, if you practice one kick 10,000 times you will be a master at that specific kick, maybe one of the best in the world at it.
So, how can we apply this to our life and what can we learn from it?
Value is created by possessing specific knowledge.
Specific knowledge is not something that can be taught. If someone tells you exactly how to do a certain kick you more than likely will not be very good at it. In order to attain specific knowledge you have to go out into the world and learn it. By performing a kick 10,000 times you are able to learn exactly how to perform that kick.
So what is your one kick? What is the one thing that you can be a master at? If you can find that one skill set and invest your time to be an expert you will be in a place where you have made yourself very valuable.
In a world of people who claim to be a jack of all trades, it is better to be a master of one.
