Like The Cream on Milk You Can’t Keep a Good Person Down
Milk.
The beverage most of us had with our cereal or cookies.
What can we learn from this simple liquid?
Well, it turns out a lot.
Milk that has not been homogenized has this interesting property. The cream rises to the top.
It does not matter how many times or how hard you shake a milk jug, the cream will naturally rise to the top. Every single time.
It is quite fascinating (and a workout).
Now, you can start to see how we can draw a lot of parallels between life and milk.
You should aim to be like the cream.
No matter how hard or how many times life shakes you up always rise to the top.
So what characteristics can make someone always rise to the top.
Effort - Those who get ahead in life don’t get ahead by accident. It is a choice to succeed. It is an infinite struggle against both the person you are today and those around you. The cream that rises to the top are those that are willing to put in the effort.
Care - Maintaining continuous effort in face of seemingly insurmountable struggles is nearly impossible through will power alone. You need a secret weapon. A weapon most people overlook. You have to care. Care is like the dial on the stove that makes the flame burn hotter. Passion is what will drive you to survive anything that life throws at you. There is a quote by Nietzsche that “If you know the why, you can live any how.”
Persistence - Cream gets beaten up, shaken every which way, yet it still rises to the top. In life you will experience far worse. You will be lied to, stolen from, misled, and stabbed in the back. But, you must keep going. No matter what life throws at you or how people treat you, like the cream you must keep rising to the top.
So here is the good news, these traits are transferable across cultures, languages, and industries. If you are able to master these characteristics you are in a great spot.
