I have the tools to create
Last week I had a mid-life crisis.
You’re probably wondering, “George, how can you have a mid-life crisis? You are only 23.”
Which is true, as of this writing I am 23 years old.
I feel that compared to the average 23 year old I am at a good place in life. I’m working on a company I love, with a team I really like. We are doing some really cool things, and having a ton of fun.
But, what caused this mid-life crisis?
What I realized was that I am the same distance in years from being 18 years old as I am from being 28. Not that 28 is old, but it made me come to grips with the fact that life really is flying by. No matter how hard I try to resist. No matter how much I try to ignore it. Time does not care about my feelings, and will keep on moving at the same pace.
So, rather than fight time, I realized that I just need to maximize my time. If every hour that passes is 1 hour closer to dying, why am I not trying to squeeze every last ounce of life out of my time? Instead of sitting idly by, I am going to do as much as physically possible. Not just in the business sense. But, in life as a whole. (If I live to 100 years old, I have 28,105 days of life left.)
Which gets me to second point of my mid-life crisis. We all have the tools to create the life that we want to live. For instance, my goal in life is to have a beach house. The main limiting factor is money. I can today, go out and build a product, business, service, whatever and in X amount of time, I can afford a beach house.
It is really empowering when you realize that you control your future. Through hard work and creativity you can create your own future. The 1 rule that exists in life is that there are no rules. And as long as you follow that rule then the sky is the limit.
“Life is a checkerboard, and the player opposite you is TIME. If you hesitate before moving, or neglect to move promptly, your men will be wiped off the board by TIME. You are playing against a partner who will not tolerate INDECISION!”
