Cold Takes and Weak Logic
The world seems to always be in a constant state of turmoil. The past 72 hours have further proved that point. As the events in Israel have unfolded the internet has been bombarded with cold takes built on weak logic. It is unsettling. We like to think humans are rational beings that are able to make cohesive arguments, but that is not always the case. What we have seen are arguments built on partial truths, nonsensical rationalizations, and the complete abandonment of logic. When terrorists murder innocent people at a music festival (and parade their dead bodies around after) it makes supporting that cause showcases the lack of empathy and general ignorance some individuals have.
So, what is the point of this?
Humans are emotional creatures that are able to suspend logic in order to conform their opinions to better fit the groups they claim to be a part of. Some of those people out there who are making posts defending the actions of Hamas know that what is happening is wrong, but do not dare to go against “their side.”
People can be brainwashed. The fact that someone from America, who attended American schools, and lives in a country where they are relatively free can be convinced that the “good guys” are the ones indiscriminately killing innocent people shows just how mentally pliable some individuals are.
People will rarely admit they are incorrect. Once someone makes a claim and outwardly defends it the chances of them ever adjusting that stance are near zero. Instead, they will dig a deeper hole, rationalize harder, and prove to the world that they are ignorant.
