Attack Life
Life either happens to you, or you happen to it.
To get this started what does “attacking life” mean?
No, it does not mean going to your local Safeway and destroying the Life Cereal section. Attacking life means bringing a high level of intensity to life each and every day. Viewing life as a game or a challenge that can be won, and performing in a way that puts you at the highest likelihood of victory. Go after life with the intention of winning. Don’t let time pass by as you sit around idly.
Here is how to approach attacking life.
Define your reason for why you want to attack life. Before you go about attacking life, you need to understand your reason for doing so. What do you hope to gain? What do you hope to shed? What is the outcome you are after? Without your reason, you will be like a lost ship in the middle of an ocean without a compass attacking anything that moves.
Plan your attack. Once you understand where you are trying to go and what you are trying to accomplish map out a plan that will get you there. Define the rules of your attack. What are you going to do? What are you going to not do? What are you going to do if you do the things you are not wanting to do? How will you penalize yourself? How are you going to hold yourself accountable? When setting these goals be fair to yourself, if you haven’t read a book in a few years don’t aim to read 2 hours every night, start with 15 minutes and work your way up.
Check-in. Attacking life isn’t a “set it and forget it” type thing, it requires you to check in on yourself. Typically a weekly check-in works well. What you can do is review your document which has all the responses to the above questions and evaluate how well you are doing. Based on how you are doing you can make adjustments.
Care. In order to attack life effectively you must care. You need to actually want to improve. If you only half want to improve you are going to waste your time. The most surprising thing is that most people do not care about improving. Most would rather spend their time on other things. Which is fine. But, if you truly want to attack life you have to care. Don’t be off-put by people that reject this concept, or would prefer to do less. Everyone is on their own journey, you must choose yours.
Attacking life is exciting. You will feel as if you are in the driver’s seat, and it is because you are.
In your hands you hold your destiny you can either capture it or let it slip through your fingers like sand.
“Life is a checkerboard, and the player opposite you is time. If you hesitate before moving, or neglect to move promptly, your men will be wiped off the board by time.”
