A Walk On Part In The War
Did You Exchange A Walk On Part In The War For A Lead Role In A Cage?
Pink Floyd “Wish You Were Here” 1975
Starting a company isn’t glamorous. You are typically overworked and underpaid. You don’t get a luxurious corner office. The only snacks stocked at the office are the ones you bought, and they sure as hell aren't free. You are the one who answers customer service emails, delivers packages, and every other job in between. By almost all measurements it is completely irrational to try to start a company.
But, do you know the advantage?
You own yourself.
You get to control how you spend your time, what hours you work, and where you work.
The steering wheel is in your hands and you get to decide where to go.
Your hands will either crash your ship into an iceberg like the Titanic or get yourself to port.
Sure, you will most likely end up working longer, more stressful hours, but do you know what makes it special?
Your time is going towards you.
Not some unknown stockholders whose great-great-grandparents started the company and commuted on horse-drawn carriages.
Your blood, sweat, and tears go towards building a life for you, not for someone else.
It may be painful at times. You may want to turn back. But just know, once you make it far enough you can never imagine it any other way.
